COLLABORATIVE MARKETING EFFORT

As the dynamic economic hub of one of the fastest growing metros in the nation, McAllen has certainly blossomed from its small town roots. Our economic growth has undoubtedly benefited from our proximity to major cities in northern Mexico, and thus for many years, our unity has been our success.

"Neighbors, friends, family, partners.

Our unity is our success."

An International Family

Recently, however, our interconnectedness has suffered some setbacks. This has, unfortunately, led to some meaningful economic changes for McAllen’s retail, tourism, and hospitality industries. Simply put, fewer international visitors has meant less commerce for us all.

We know that hotel occupancy is down. We know that fewer Mexican nationals are visiting your stores. And with Mexican shoppers accounting for nearly 34% of sales tax revenue, our city itself has taken a hit.

Because of this, The City of McAllen, McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the McAllen Economic Development Corporation have launched an aggressive cross-border marketing campaign using social media, radio and television ads, print ads, billboards, and online platforms to circulate the message that we continue to honor our bonds with our neighbors, friends, family, and partners to the south.

McAllen shares a kindred spirit with Mexico. It is a strong familial bond built through decades of neighborly love; indeed our shared history is a link to our past and the path to our future.

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce takes your business concerns very seriously. We've done our homework and implemented an aggressive and comprehensive plan to rebuild retail sales and hotel occupancy.

The bottom line is results. We will measure the success of each prong of the overall initiative, including examining data from sales tax, occupancy rates, and bridge traffic to ensure these initiatives are performing effectively. We will utilize these figures to adjust our campaigns as needed to maximize impact.

Though we are two distinct countries, we share one common region. Let us not forget our history, and work towards rectifying our future.

WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER

The City of McAllen, the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, and the McAllen Economic Development Corporation have developed the three-pronged #SeeYouInMcAllen marketing initiative to aggressively address attracting international and interstate visitors to our City in an effort to boost retail sales, hotel occupancy, and bridge.
